How It Works
Our Culture
- 01To keep learners fueled for their hands-on day, we ask that families pack a daily lunch. Because we follow specific licensing standards to ensure everyone gets a balanced meal, we ask that lunches include a grain, a protein, a vegetable, and a fruit. For snacks, please pick any two of those categories! To keep energy levels steady, we’re a no candy or sugary drinks space.
- 02
- 03We use high-quality media as a shared “window to the world” during group discovery, but learners never have access to individual devices. We ask that personal electronics and watches stay in backpacks throughout the day to ensure that everyone is fully engaged in the social process of building and creating together.
- 04To keep our small group thriving, we follow a proactive wellness policy. You can request a copy of our full breakdown for specific illnesses at any time, but here are the core principles we live by: The following symptoms will exclude children from care, regardless of the cause (including but not limited to receiving vaccines, eating too many sweets, getting car sick, etc.). If any of the below symptoms are caused by allergies or asthma, your child will need clearance from a physician and a prescription for management of the symptom. FEVER greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit taken under the arm. They may return when resolved for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. Dosing your child with medicine to disguise a fever and then dropping them off is immediate grounds for termination. VOMITING one or more times in the past 48 hours. They may return when there have been no more episodes in a 48-hour period. STIFF NECK or HEADACHE with accompanying fever. They may return after resolution of symptoms or after they are given a diagnosis and clearance from a physician (this will require a note). RASH with or without fever. Any new rash if not previously diagnosed by a healthcare provider OR if rash is increasing in size OR if new sores/wounds are developing day-to-day OR if rash, sores or wounds are draining and cannot be completely covered with a bandage. They may return after they are given a diagnosis and clearance from a physician (this will require a note). Exceptions are made for previously noted eczema. JAUNDICE (yellow color or skin or eyes). They may return after resolution of the symptom or after they are given a diagnosis and clearance from a physician (this will require a note). DIARRHEA (more than one abnormally loose, runny, watery or bloody stool) OR sudden onset of loose stools. They may return 48 hours after resolution of the symptom. If laxatives are necessary, your child can not return to care until 48 hours after their last dose. SKIN LESIONS that are "weepy" (fluid or pus-filled). They may return after resolution of the symptom or after they are given a diagnosis and clearance from a physician (this will require a note). Colored drainage from eyes or ears. They may return after resolution of the symptom or after they are given a diagnosis and clearance from a physician (this will require a note). Any brown/green/yellow MUCUS from the nose OR clear, running SNOT needing to be blown more than once within thirty minutes. May return when resolved for a full day. Difficulty breathing or SHORTNESS OF BREATH. They may return when it’s resolved for a full day. Any new COUGH. They may return when it has been resolved for a full day OR if it’s been seven full days since onset. Symptoms or complaints that prevent the student from participating in his/her usual activities including but not limited to lethargy or excessive fussiness. They may return after a return to their normal temperament or diagnosis from a physician and clearance given.
